Summary
A "golden handshake" occurs where an employer pays money by way of compensation to an employee on his agreeing to take early retirement. In Pakistan such a payment is taxable in the hands of the employee being chargeable as "profit in lieu of salary". The author suggests a strategy that might mitigate the retiring employee's tax liability in certain circumstances
