It is obviously that, on a global level, the ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) population is expanding, and that the wealth of UHNW individuals is increasing rapidly. For various reasons, UHNW families and individuals are searching for vehicles to assist them in safeguarding and conveniently managing their wealth. Private foundations represent one useful avenue for achieving this end, and the use of private foundations has become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly in European countries. Many countries have adopted laws regulating private foundations, and these jurisdictions offer different opportunities to those seeking to establish such foundations. UHNW families and individuals tend to move their wealth to countries which are economically and politically stable, safe, with favourable tax regimes. In light of the information examined, this article discusses that Estonia has a particularly advantageous position among European countries, placing it head and shoulders above its European competitors as a jurisdiction for establishing a private foundation.
