Summary
This book includes topical studies about the energy sector in the EU and the impact of EU State aid regulation on it. It provides a critical analysis of the EU energy taxation system in light of competition and environmental protection objectives and a comparative analysis looking beyond the EU. The book is the result of a two years Jean Monnet Research Project which aims to clarify the role of tax benefits on the energy sector and specifically, the relationship between EU State aids and energy taxes, by identifying the most suitable mechanisms to reconcile competitiveness, environmental protection and the need of tax resources, from the point of view of the effectiveness of the measures and the coherence of the legal system
