Summary
This editorial examines the reputation of the OECD and the European Union. Proposals which attack fundamental principles of the rule of law, or which change the nature of society by requiring citizens to inform on one another, will normally not make it through the legislative process of a free democracy without challenge. Increasingly, however, this proces is subverted by the way in which international organizations operate. In its most extreme form, it involves national governments being told what to do by parties outside the nation in question
