Summary
Home care workers carry out some of the most valuable and demanding jobs in the UK but they themselves are often low-paid and subject to challenging work conditions. The underlying factors are complex. The Low Incomes Tax Reform Group (LITRG), an initiative of the Chartered Institute of Taxation set up to give a voice to unrepresented taxpayers, has released a research report "Care workers - challenges of the tax and benefits system" (the Report) describing these complexities in detail and illustrating their impact by way of email correspondence it has received from users of the LITRG website about their experiences in relation to care work. It is hoped that this Report will help draw the issues to the fore. This current note highlights some particular areas of difficulty for care workers and examines the Report
