Summary
Faced with the growing challenge of implementing the sustainable development goal effectively, the OECD launched studies on governance for sustainable development in five OECD countries presenting efforts to develop truly integrated frameworks of effective institutions. The five selected countries, namely Canada, Japan, Germany, Netherlands, United Kingdom, while presenting many varied economic, environmental, social and cultural conditions, have all made efforts over the past decade to elaborate an approach to sustainable development. The studies have four main objectives: they present information on general aspects of the national system that matter for sustainable development; highlight specific institutional arrangements; describe decision-making mechanisms and main learning including successes and doubts as well as selective innovative initiatives. The first section of the book is an analysis which presents the main findings and conclusions of the studies
