Summary
The UK referendum on "Brexit" was held on 23 June 2016. The UK voters decided to withdraw from the European Union. Though it is widely expected to result in significant effects for trade between the United Kingdom and the European Union, the exact consequences will not be known until article 50 of the Treaty on the European Union is invoked and the "exit" negotiations are finalized at least two years later. However, as indirect taxes are already harmonized at the EU level, it stands to reason that customs duties, VAT and excise duties will suffer the most significant impact of the Brexit
