Summary
This article reports the results of a survey on the ethics of tax evasion that was distributed to accounting, business and law students and accounting practitioners in New Zealand. Eighteen philosophical arguments that have been used to justify tax evasion were ranked in terms of relative strength. Analyses were conducted by gender, age, education, religion and ethnicity to determine whether different groups had different views on tax evasion. The results of the student survey were compared with those of accounting practitioners to determine whether the two groups held different views on the ethics of tax evasion
